Welcome to The Improv Company’s blog! It’s a new year and we’re doing everything up so things look and work better. We just finished repainting our studio in Jalan Pisang and it’s now a wonderful, warm yellow, and now we’re launching our blog.
As the improv community in Singapore grows and goes new places, we’ve also been learning lots about ourselves, our community and about improv, and we’d love to share what we’ve learned!
We started the Company as a means to bring improv to Singapore. There have been improv troupes in the past, and drama teachers do teach improv to their students, but there hasn’t been a scene in Singapore like those in the US or Europe, and we want to change that – because improv is a vibrant, spontaneous and exciting art form, the improv mindset can bring a lot of useful positivity to a person and it’s great fun to do.
One of the best things about improv is that just about anyone can do it – after all, everyone already improvises all the time, they just haven’t realised it yet! We’re really excited about the future of improv in Singapore and we’re very pleased to be a part of it.
By the by, we’re making our Channel 5 debut today – check out 5 Search tonight, 9.30pm on Channel 5 to see one of our coaches, Darren F, impart some improv wisdom to the 5 Search hopefuls! (You can also watch the video online.)
